BUILDING CHILDREN'S FITNESS THROUGH PARENT COACHING
John Frietas presents a hands-on workshop in parental coaching. The number one influence on a child’s fitness is the parents. If just one parent is overweight, there is a 70% that their children will be overweight. If, however, both parents are a healthy weight, there is only a 7% chance of their children being overweight.
Genetics can play a role, but the number one factor is the environment children are exposed to and learn from, both at home and at school. We have the knowledge and the resources to meet this challenge. Parents can take this knowledge and model healthier behavior through life choices to support physical fitness, learning, and life success.
In this workshop, we’ll get into some fun activities that show parents can become coaches for their own children. Effective coaching includes participating with your children in meal preparation and physical activities. John’s material is drawn from the Transitions Lifestyle System ShapeUp program and enhanced by his own fitness expertise. He will discuss the TLSKids.com website, which was designed for kids ages 5 to 9. It has nutritional information, games, activities, how to make healthy meals, how to sneak in vegetables, etc.
