SANDRA'S STORY...

Sandra Fontana has been a dancer from her early years and moves with ease, grace, and compassion as she leads her NIA practice.  She has been teaching NIA for five years.

After being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness in 2004, Sandra Fontana turned to NIA, at Dr. Sheila Frodermann’s
suggestion, to help restore balance, reduce stress, and remove toxins from her body.  Sandra was rewarded with an experience of total freedom that comes from personal expression and with the
gift of remission from Lymphoma.  Having been a dancer all her life, Sandra went on to become an inspiring Certified NIA
Instructor.

NIA DANCE FOR HEALTH:
BODIES ARE MEANT TO MOVE;
TAKE A DANCE BREAK

This introductory half-hour session will engage participants in NIA (Neuro-muscular Integrative Action), a fun fitness program that blends elements of the Martial Arts, Dance Arts, and Healing Arts to build up our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual energies.  Additional benefits include cardiovascular conditioning, weight loss, enhanced flexibility, stability and improved posture. The NIA Technique stresses systemic movement for all 13 joints in the body, and stimulation for all 7,000 nerve endings in your feet.  Sandra will address the following questions:

What exactly is neuro-muscular
   interpretive action?

   How has NIA been used in therapy
   and with what kinds of results?

   How can the practice of NIA help
   us to improve our breathing?

Sandra will lead the group through a short series of movements, which are simple to learn, as you allow your body, mind, emotions and spirit to connect. NIA is a transformative expressive movement workout, set to a wide variety of music that results in holistic fitness, personal growth and lifestyle change.  Sandra explains, "All energy comes through the feet, from mother earth... sense that you're bringing in the energy, feel the energy... be in the Present moment...Relax, Let Go, Sense Pleasure not Pain."

Sandra is open to scheduling regular NIA classes for your workplace, school, or senior center as her calendar allows.
